Salt dough Family handprints: Lockdown 2020

A great way to get all the family involved in some craft time and to have a family memento. Making salt dough is very easy and fun to make.

To make your family handprints follow the instructions below:

Salt dough ingredients:

You will need 2 cups of flour, 1 cup of salt and 1 cup of water

Salt dough recipe method

Add the salt and the flour to a bowl, pour the water in slowly and stir.

Knead the mixture into a dough, roll it out and flattened your salt dough mix, One at a time press your hand into the dough to leave a hand print in the dough. Once everyone has put their handprint in write down your family name and the date on the dough.

Once your creations are made you will need to dry them.

Drying methods

Depending on your time constraint, you can choose one of these three drying methods for your salt dough recipe.

Air dry: This is the longest method as you will be leaving your salt dough creations to air dry. You can place them on a wax paper or on a grill and let them dry between 2 days to a week depending on their size.

Baking in the oven: Lay the salt dough creations on a baking sheet and place them in the oven for 2 to 3 hours on a low temperature ( around 100°C).

Microwave: If you are in a rush you can zap your creations in the microwave, it will take about 2 minutes.

Once your family hand print is dried you can start decorating using paint or paint pens.
