Our monthly 6pm Choral Evensong (Evening Prayer) broadly follows the traditional order from the Book of Common Prayer. It’s led by a minister, and the choir supports our worship.
Each time there are different musical settings for scripture known as the Magnificat, and Nunc Dimittis, and at least one Psalm will be sung by the choir (we follow in the Prayer Book unless familiar with the music!) and the choir will sing one or two anthems. You can expect the choir and minister to be robed in traditional vestments.
Evensong is primarily about sitting with God and being still and allowing music and scripture to help us to escape the busyness of the day and to pray. It is reflective in mood and lasts about 40 minutes. It’s usually on the last Sunday of the month (depending on school holidays and festivals this can change so please check the monthly calendar or music list to be sure).
You are invited to come along to join the service. We want you to feel welcome, so please don’t worry about asking for help if you are not sure what to do and if you would like to meet up with the vicar ahead of attending for the first time, or someone else, please email vicar@stfranciswgc.org.uk to arrange a suitable time.
