Light of the World Prayers

Nov 02

Every evening at 7pm the Youth & Children's team post up a Prayer and light a candle and share it on Facebook with our Church and Community. We know some of you aren't able to access Facebook so here is a selection of prayers that we used last week in the lead up to our Light Party Celebration

God, with you there is no darkness. Your character has no shadows, and you are pure and good. Yet in our broken world, we see so much darkness around us. Pain, sickness, and disease are in our community and in many of our homes.

Bring your light and restoring presence to the dark places in our lives. Bring your hope to hearts that feel defeated. Bring your love and compassion to those in pain.

Give us faith to say with the psalmist, “Lord, you light my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness.” May your light of hope shine in the darkness for families today. Show us glimpses of your presence with us and the comfort you bring.

In the busyness of today, help us to take a moment to be still and sit with you. To slow down, breathe deeply, and release our burdens to your strong hand. You are trustworthy, good, and true, and we thank you for caring for us so deeply and beautifully. Open our eyes to see you at work today. Give us your light.

In Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer to be Filled With Holy Light

as daylight fills the sky,
fill us with your holy light.
May our lives mirror our love for you
whose wisdom has brought us into being,
and whose care guides us on our way.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. AMEN.

Prayer To Follow The Light

God our Saviour,
help us to follow the light
and live the truth.
In you, we have been born again
as sons and daughters of light.
May we be your witnesses before all the world.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. AMEN

Prayer to Live in the Light

Lord, true light and source of all light,
listen to our morning prayer.
Turn our thoughts to what is holy
and may we ever live in the light of your love.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever. AMEN

Lord Jesus, Lord of joy, the world craves good news; the world craves your love and joy. Fill us with that love and joy. Help us to see the plight of others, to hear the sighs of need, the howls of pain the cries of despair, and to respond,  always, in the love and joy of you, our Saviour and our Lord.  Amen.

God, your light is the commencement and culmination of creation. From now until forever you are the light of life. You invite us to walk in your light and become lights to the world as we do so. Revive our hearts to sing, “This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. Let it shine. Let it shine. Let it shine!” Amen

Transforming God, whose light always penetrates the darkness and whose love always overcomes hate, we ask that you sustain us as we struggle to make your light visible in an angry and frightened world. Nurture us daily as we work for your justice in unjust places and your peace in places where no peace is to be found. Give us courage and strength when we are fearful and weak. Give us hope and forgiveness when we feel hopeless and angry. And guide us every step of the way as we walk toward the light. In Jesus’ name we pray,  Amen.

John 8:12

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."

Tonight, Saturday 31st October, we passed the light of Christ through our Church and out into the homes of our congregation and community at our Light Party.

You have joined us by viewing these photos, reading our prayers so it would be lovely if you could light a candle and join in with this hymn and spread the light of Jesus Christ

With thanks to the ministry team, Rachel and Anthony for helping make such a wonderful Light Party and being able to light up our Church with Christ's Light

Merciful God, teach us to be faithful in change and uncertainty, that trusting in your word
and obeying your will we may enter the unfailing joy of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Thank you for these prayers. I plan to adapt and use these for our Lenten mid-week service this week — with proper attribution of course. God bless and keep you!
